The Journal of Alan Ledford

Resonation Minefield, Day 257

Jenny watched, and the translator informed me that her current stance indicated utter shock. "What did you just do?"

What Sann had asked me to.

When I'd returned from the sphere - and Jenny had informed me that mere moments had passed, a much shorter time than I'd thought I'd been gone - we'd made our way back toward the ship without me giving a whole lot of explanation. I'd been in a rush; considering how much slower time seemed to go by inside the sphere, I was worried Sann would think that I'd had a crisis of concience and decided to not blow up the ship. He might decide to take matters into his own hands at that point. He didn't have any control outside the sphere, he'd said, but what if there was still a self-destruct he could trigger? I wanted to get out of here before the place turned into another Yotia.

My fears had been unwarranted. Sann had always been patient anyway.

Jenny, on the other hand, didn't take the news so well.

"He wanted you to destroy it? Why? He worked his whole life on that thing! He finally got Archetype working! Alan, you brought me along with the idea of doing exactly what Sann had done!"

I tried to relate as best I could, without sounding like a lunatic, what had happened to me when I touched the sphere. I could tell she seemed trapped between two options; on the one hand Sann had certainly provided enough evidence in his message to support what I was saying. On the other hand, I sounded like a lunatic.

She seemed to give up the debate and slumped somewhat sadly. "So what do we do now?"

My current plan was to make our way back to Reil station, and then, as my dream that I was becoming increasingly certain was no such thing has indicated, press the random button.

"That's right! There's still the original!" she seemed excited by this possibility, and I knew it was because she wanted to continue her work. She did not appear to be a convert to the "blow up the Resonators because otherwise they'll end up killing us all" cause. I had a day or so of following the backtrail of Sann's probe to try to convince her.
